Overview



With indirect supervision, the Care Associate/Care Tech performs clerical functions including but not limited to: patient reception, appointment scheduling, computer data entry, maintains patient files, and sorts office mail. Performs functions related to billing including ICD-10 and CPT coding, enters charges, collects and posts payments, and reconciles deposits. Assess patient vital signs, administers injections, assists physician with procedures, prepares for procedures, answers the telephone, calls in prescriptions, performs drug screens and other duties as assigned.




Responsibilities



PART III: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. Performs venipunctures and non-blood specimen collection.

Answers telephone/takes messages.

Assists physician and/or nurse with procedures.

Checks patients in and collects appropriate payments.

Cleans exam rooms.

Collect and documents clinical data.

Corrects CRF's in a timely manner.

Documents missed appointments in patient record.

Files/scans patient test results, records, and other paperwork timely and accurately.

Follows established policies and procedures.

Follows up with lab work, referrals, consults, and other testing.

Greets patients courteously and escorts them to the exam room.

Maintains current knowledge of third party payers, pre-certifies patients, and verifies benefits.

Maintains POCT quality control and unknown specimen proficiencies.

Performs accurate computer data entry of tests/procedures orders, patient demographics and patient charges.

Performs drug screens and assists physician in initial injury treatment.

Performs electrocardiograms.

Performs functions related to the billing process including ICD-10 and CPT coding. Enters charges, collects and posts payments, reconciles deposits for inpatient and outpatient billing.

Performs glucometer/cholesterol testing.

Performs pulmonary function tests, pulse oximetry, nebulizer treatments as instructed by physician.

Provides patient instructions for procedure preps.

Schedules patient clinical appointments/diagnostics.

Takes accurate patient vital signs.




Qualifications



Experience/Education Requirements:High school diploma or its equivalent preferredAbility to spell, alphabetize and count accuratelyAbility to work in an automated environment requiredKnowledge of medical terminology requiredPrevious clinical experience required including the ability to take vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, and injectionsPrevious ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding skills preferredExperience in a physician office or other healthcare setting preferredInsurance and authorization process knowledge helpfulMust be able to type 35WPM

License or Certification Requirements:Medical assistant certification preferredCPR certification preferred depending on staffing needs
